THE WALTER SISULU UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION

The Walter Sisulu University Foundation was established by legal statute in 2009. WSU Foundation is the resource mobilization arm of the Walter Sisulu University, charged with securing support for the general and developmental institutional needs. The Foundation also advises the University on channeling of donor funds and affords the donors the benefit of tax exemption for their contributions. In the University context, the Foundation’s role is to access resources for the future development and the sustainable advancement of the Walter Sisulu University.

The Foundation is based in Johannesburg and its objectives are:

To establish a fund, the sole object of which shall be to provide funds to the University and its employees or students enabling the University to pursue its aims of providing higher education according to its mission;
to receive donations from the Founder and other persons, all such donations to be unconditional and irrevocable and subject to the terms and conditions of the Deed;
to administer the Trust Fund in accordance with the objects of the Trust;
to further the interests and requirements of the University, its employees and students so as to better enable the University to pursue successfully its aims of achieving higher education, and to enable the University to live its vision and mission;
to further academic, research or recreational facilities, adding to or replacing buildings, providing scholarships and bursaries and to effect any improvements in the amenities of the University;
to receive funds and/or to accept contributions in money or otherwise from any source and to apply the same or the income therefrom for all or any of the objectives; and
to establish a special fund within the Republic of South Africa for the sole purpose of receiving donations to be used exclusively for the defrayal of any expenditure directly incurred for all or any of the objectives.
